Country Profiles

As FAMS Group expands its footprint in southern Africa, new countries are joining the network. FAMS has established its own strong presence in Angola, Mauritius, the Indian Ocean Islands and Zimbabwe. Further countries will follow.

Each FAMS country team is very experienced, with strong operational, commercial, and financial expertise. Where possible customs brokerage, bonded operations, and additional value-added services are done in house.

In each country that it operates FAMS trains its staff in all aspects of IT and digitalisation of the logistics industry. This includes training from skilled external trainers in: Compliance, Health and Safety, Cargo Management Systems, Dangerous Goods, Incoterms, and other aspects of the evolving industry. In association with local institutions, FAMS are also developing an intern program to bring young people into the industry. FAMS also operates with its own staff at many border posts, providing customs clearance services for road freight exports and imports.

Angola

FAMS started its group business activities in Angola with the creation of FAMS Transitarios Lda in 2015; the shareholders with a combined experience of 50+ years in West Africa and the freight logistics industry. Having previously worked in senior regional roles within international freight networks, the owners and directors of FAMS Angola have broad freight logistics experience in the region and deep knowledge of customer requirements in the Oil & Gas sector.

Mauritius

FAMS acquired the DSV Mauritius business in April 2019. All DSV staff transferred across to FAMS and continuity of business was assured through the same premises in the Mauritius Freeport and Sir Seewoosagur International Airport. Concurrently with the acquisition, FAMS signed an exclusive agency agreement to represent DSV across the Indian Ocean Islands region.

Malawi

Malawi had previously known Uti and DSV who both had a strong freight and logistics presence in the country.  Following a successful relationship in several other countries, FAMS Group signed an agency agreement with DSV for Malawi in 2021. FAMS then began developing the FAMS brand and service offering in Lilongwe and Blantyre.

Zimbabwe

FAMS Zimbabwe has its roots in Zimbabwe since 1975. The company became exclusive agent for DSV in 2019 when it took over the assets, personnel and activities of legacy DSV operations. FAMS Zimbabwe’s owners and directors all have a long experience in logistics in the region and deep knowledge of Zimbabwe's key industrial sectors , including minerals, tobacco and energy.

Mozambique

The Mozambique office handles freight moving through Beira.

Madagascar

Set up in April of 2023, the Madagascar office takes on some projects previously handled by the Mauritius office, focusing on the import of raw materials and the export of various textiles, handicrafts, machinery, and laptops.
