FAMS Grows in Madagascar!

FAMS Grows in Madagascar!

We at FAMS are happy to announce that we have opened an office in Madagascar, serving as a commercial branch to the Mauritius division (t/a FAMS Air & Sea LTD). By expanding our operations into Madagascar, FAMS strengthens its logistics capability, adding to an ever-expanding network of operations across Sub-Saharan Africa. This move also provides an economic boost to the Madagascan economy, which is heavily reliant on the trade of its manufactured goods with other countries.

Set up in April of 2023, the Madagascar office takes on some projects previously handled by the Mauritius office, focusing on the import of raw materials and the export of various textiles, handicrafts, machinery, and laptops. Through FAMS, these goods are transported all over the world, from South Africa to the United States to Europe. Many popular fashion brands, such as Zara, JCPenney and Puma are supplied by manufacturers in Madagascar.

The decision to move this aspect of our logistics business from Mauritius to Madagascar, comes as a result of the islands increasingly ideal location for projects in the textile garment industry. According to a report from the International Trade Administration, Madagascar is ranked the number one textile exporter to the EU within Sub-Saharan Africa. It is also the third biggest Sub-Saharan exporter to the United States, making up 19.9% of all apparel imports to the US from around the world. This record production rate is due to several factors- the primary factor being Madagascar’s strategic location on the Africa-Asia axis. Many complex sourcing and distribution networks pivot around Madagascan production.

As a freight forwarder FAMS is proud to be a part of this worldwide logistics chain. There are also opportunities for FAMS to give back to the Mauritius economy, which is steadily recovering from decades of poor growth and widespread poverty, largely due to inadequate capital development and structural change. By opening our operations on the island, we assist in the growth of the manufacturing and logistics sector, providing jobs, and bringing in foreign currency to the country. FAMS holds itself to a stringent set of ethical values for people and the environment, and it is our goal to not only grow our business, but also assist in the development of the Madagascan economy.

Our current employees at the office, Danele Ho-Pive and Erick Nandrianina are proud of the work they are doing for the country, trading as FAMS Air & Sea (Madagascar) SDET.

Our objectives for 2024 are to increase the volume of exports out of Madagascar to several destinations” – Danele Ho-Pive
